Buckingham Palace
Her Majesty The Queen
Cancel the State Visit invitation to Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto to the United Kingdom from the 3rd to 5th of March 2015
Laura Morales
London, Reino Unido

Your Majesty,

We, the Mexican community in the UK, along with friends, family and everyone who is in love with Mexico and its culture would like to express their discontent with the invitation made to Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto to visit the United Kingdom in 2015. We see these state visits as a way to legitimise Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto’s status as president of Mexico, something we feel very strongly against.

We would like to invite you to analyse the current situation Mexican people are living in, the shameful and utter lack of human rights, violence and extreme poverty. Do you think the person responsible for all these atrocities should be welcome in your palace and in your country?

We feel the need to express our disapproval about this visit and we would like to ask you to cancel the invitation.

We understand that relationships with other countries are very important to the United Kingdom, however, please take into consideration the message this cancellation will give to the rest of the world. It’s important to let Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto know that the world is watching. It is important to let him know that the rest of the world is a witness of the suffering of millions of Mexican people under his regime.

We trust you to share the pain of Mexico’s current situation and we sincerely hope that you decide to cancel this state visit.
Yours faithfully,
The Mexican Community in the United Kingdom and everyone else who wants to see the destruction of such a beautiful country and its people stopped.

Event: Let’s talk about Human Rights in Mexico: Ayotzinapa’s 43 Disappeared Students

By Liberation on February 7, 2015

Liberation, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Cathy Jamieson MP, and Justice Mexico Now,are hosting an event at Portcullis House, on Human Rights in Mexico on the 24th of February 2015 at 7pm (please arrive 6.30 to pass security). This event takes place in the context of the dual year Mexico-UK 2015 which focus on trade, investment and culture, but largely overlooks the Human Right’s crisis in Mexico. The speakers will cover the recent case of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa and their enforced disappearance by the mayor and local police in Guerrero, Mexico, the extrajudicial killings by the military like those at the State of Mexico, violence against journalists and activists, impunity rates, and a preliminar report from one of the participants at the Misión de Observación Civil that took place in November last year.
